Charon's Obol || Pendant

Charon's Obol || Pendant

$235.00

A hand carved and sand cast face has coins set in the eyes and mouth, inspired by the toll to be paid to cross the River Styx into the underworld to the ferryman Charon. They were referred to as “Obol’, a small silver coin used as passage to cross to the beyond. The coins on the eyes are my version of the 8 pointed star coins from the Alexander the Great period, while the one set in the mouth is modeled after the Greek symbol for death while on the back is the alchemical symbol for water. It is a hefty Silver talisman meant to remind the wearer that there is always a price to be paid, hanging from 22 inches of fixed chain ending in a fish hook style clasp.
