Every year towards the end of Summer the wild Cucamelons start crawling up the trellises around my workshop door, with their yellow flowers and bright green fruit filled with seeds. To me they symbolize the last rays of Summer before the Morning glory vines overtake the last of these mini melons that have turned black on the vine (the ones I didn’t get a chance to pickle that is). Bright yellow glass representing the flowers have small teardrop green Onyx swinging from hand fabricated chain. They hang from 19 gauge fish hooks and are super lightweight. Forged as a reminder the world is turning, they arrive just as the Sun slowly disappears and the leaves start to drop, the last bright pop of Green in the little universe that is my yard until Winters icy grip passes.
